Family Group Conferencing

Family Group Conferencing is traced back to the traditional aboriginal ways, in which the care and decision making for children was considered the natural responsibility of the extended family and the community as a whole.

The Philosophy of the Family Group Conference are; Families have resources and the ability to provide supports that professionals often cannot; family members are best informed on their issues; A child or youth capable of forming an opinion is entitled to an opportunity to express that opinion on matters affecting them; Reconnecting familial relationships that encircle the child creates sustainable change; A child receiving intervention services, who is too young to form an opinion or incapable of expressing an opinion, should have in their information the advantage of knowing that family members who cared about them came together to make decisions about their future well being.
